FKA twigs brings pain to the forefront in her new titled single “killer” released on June 16.
Produced by FKA twigs and songwriter Jonny Coffer, among additional production by El Guincho who produced her album “MAGDALENE '' in 2019, "killer" instruments a wispy alt pop single, and unveils lyrics of heartbreak.
Twigs opens with the lines, “It’s dangerous to be a woman in love / I’m walking quicker but you’re picking up / Feel like I’m navigating muddy waters / heal us”. She questions in later lines, “Since when did happiness become a sin / since when did hurt become deliberate / heal us”.
The bondage of us encapsulates twigs' distress holding onto the past, and the person she associated with love. She remains hopeful in order to save what was lost, and reminisces off of the beauty of what was created by love despite the truth; longing for a "holy love" she thought to have existed. Pleading to be set free from the attachment and to be healed from what was broken, twigs releases her hurt through introspection.
“When at its worst the effects of heartbreak can define one’s trajectory much more than the beauty of the love itself, in my song 'killer,' I explore this concept. The navigation, the hunt, the kill. The death of promises, dreams, and the future that was once promised. But like the wildest plucked roses, I find myself more beautiful, delicately wilted, in shadow, forced solace, darkened at the edges, and achingly thirsting to be tended to again” twigs stated on recent media posts.

There was a mention to “killer” in her mixtape “CAPRISONGS” released back in January. Off of the track “papi bones” featuring Shygirl, twigs sings the first verse,
“Everybody wants to send out for my love / Sticky, sweet, I’m gonna be like a killer / A killer, a killer”.
In her single, “killer” we hear the turn of events from the light “Capri Song energy,” sensual and insouciant. Notably in both eras, twigs remains dedicated to her craft.
“When you fall in love with someone it’s like you have a box of happiness, and that box is inside your heart. Then you give somebody that box, and you say, ‘this is like my treasure chest of happiness, be careful with it,’ you know? That’s been my younger experiences of love, now I feel like I’d be completely different. I now have my own confidence and happiness within myself that maybe I wouldn’t go so far, but when you're close with somebody there’s a big responsibility on both parts not to break it” twigs said in a recent interview with BBC Radio 1.
