Mitski's Melancholic "Love Me More" Captures Desperate Love

Mitski's latest single "Love Me More" is a desperate plead to someone to as she begs in her catchy chrous "love her more." With a synth-pop background, the song feels almsot joyous in its retro feel. Her lyrics prove the oppsite though as "I could be a new girl/I will be a new girl." Her repitivie chorus begs, "I need you to love me more, love me more, love me more." She repeats those three words throughout the song, pleading for someone to meet her impossibly high needs. The song seems to detail a codependent relationship, that has turned into unhelathy attachment. She is willing to change herself for this person, and she says that she needs them to love her more; not wants but needs. They synth keyboard and steadily growing fast paced beat make the song have a sense of urgency, that perfectly capture the essence of Mitski's despair.

The other three singles currently out by Mitski; "The Only Heartbreaker," "Working for the Knife," and Heat Lightning" seem to follow suit in a woeful and deeply wounded tone. Her album Laurel Hell is to be released on February 4th.
