Only a few months into 2024, and the music industry has been as busy as ever. Several artists have been working hard, promoting new albums, releasing new singles, headlining tours, etc. To name just a few, household names such as Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and Ariana Grande have already confirmed the upcoming release of their albums.
As excited as I am for those releases (and believe me, I’m ready to explode because of anticipation at the mere thought of a new Taylor Swift album), I want to take a moment to appreciate some new music that has already been released this early on into 2024; some that I believe deserve just as much attention as the previously mentioned upcoming albums.
Wallows for new single, “Your Apartment”
First off, I want to highlight the latest single by Wallows. I would consider this to be the most exciting thing to come out of 2024 so far. Their song “Your Apartment” was released on February 16th.
Wallows’ single “Your Apartment” is a song that I highly recommend for everyone to add to their playlists. It expresses the concept of a past love and the struggle that both parties face while moving on, accompanied by a fast tempo to create an instantly captivating song that is meant to be on replay. Alongside this song, they released teasers for a North American tour set to happen this year.
Dylan Minnette, one of the three members of the alt-indie band, posted a photo of his fellow band members, Cole Preston and Brandon LeMasters, in The Kia Forum. This hinted at the band making their debut at this famous venue in Los Angeles, leading to a craze over social media as fans eagerly awaited for the tour dates to be announced.

First teased on the R&B singer’s Tiller Tuesdays Soundcloud playlist, Bryson Tiller finally released the fan-favorite track “Whatever She Wants” on February 12th. This song serves to mark Tiller’s return to the music scene. It also spotlights the artist’s evolution as a songwriter and singer because of the stark difference in sound in comparison to his older music.
The Detroit-inspired beats in “Whatever She Wants” cultivate an instantly catchy tune that won’t leave my head. I probably listened to this song on repeat for about a week following its release. I sincerely wish this was an exaggeration for the sake of Apple Music’s monthly recaps.
Artemas’ cover photo on Spotify
Additionally, anyone who knows me is very much aware that I would not have been able to write about the release of new music without mentioning this album: “pretty” by Artemas.
This has been a highly anticipated album for me ever since the release of the single “if u think i’m pretty” in October of 2023. As of February 9th, I was finally able to sleep peacefully knowing that I now had the entire album available for streaming.
The album consists of an experimental R&B and pop blend that reminds me of a mix between The Weeknd and Montell Fish. I think that Artemas will definitely be an artist to watch as he continues to grow in his talent and success.
Some honorary mentions of music that’s been on my radar in 2024 so far includes the album “2093” by Yeat, John Summit’s latest single “Shiver” with Hayla, and SZA’s song “Saturn.” Yeat’s “2093” presents a dystopian, sci-fi world with aliens in a rap album to illustrate his prediction of the future.
“Shiver,” by John Summit and Hayla is an instant rave-classic that is sure to have EDM lovers screaming out of the top of their lungs to attempt to belt out the high notes that Hayla does so expertly.
Finally, SZA’s “Saturn” is one that many may already be familiar with. It was a fan-favorite on TikTok premature to the official release, and it serves as an R&B heartbreak anthem. 2024’s already proving to be an incredible year for music, and it’s only getting started!
