A screen grab from the official trailer of Elvis.
The official trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s ELVIS, a musical biopic about Elvis Presley starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks, released yesterday on February 17th. The electric film takes us through the childhood, rise to fame, and downfall of the Memphis musical legend. Butler was candid about the effort he put into the role, explaining that he took voice coaching for a year before shooting and watched as many clips of Presley as he could. “I feel such a responsibility to Elvis and to [ex-wife] Priscilla and [daughter] Lisa Marie, and all the people around the world who love him so much.” Luhrmann confirmed that the film features Butler’s voice for young Elvis and a blend of Butler and Presley’s voice for older Elvis. Mixed feelings about the choice of Butler circulated the internet when Luhrmann released a sneak peek back in November of 2021. But it seems critics and Elvis fans were shocked by Butler’s wicked dance moves and strong physical resemblance to the "King". The Warner Bros. official trailer is available to watch on YouTube and the film is scheduled to release in the United States on June 24, 2022.
