22 year-old Filipino-British guitarist Towa Bird gripped us with her first Youtube video— a cover of Tame Impala's "The Less I Know the Better" on January 2020. Just when COVID was about to lockdown the world, she was about to go viral.
A little over two years later, that same video accumulated over 2.5 million views. Her YouTube channel now has over 230 thousand subscribers. Bird has found even more success on her Tiktok account, which has over 950 thousand followers. Her instagram account holds over 469 thousand followers.
Here, she adds her own riffs with her Fender telecaster—every bend, hammer-on, pull-off, and slide is overdriven just enough to pierce through the mix in a way that doesn't overpower the original sound. In fact, she is able to characterize her own soloing while also bringing the song to life.
