On September 20, 2022, UC Irvine held their Aldrich Park After Dark (APAD) event. APAD is one of the many annual events for incoming freshmen to participate in to start off the new school year. APAD itself is a concert with stands for food, drinks, and different types of school merch. The opening acts for APAD were two student performers, Dj MattyG and Keisun. Dj MattyG played and mashed songs that went with rap, hip-hop, and dance genre. Overall they were songs that students were familiar with and ones that kept the energy up. Afterward, the other student performer Keisun performed his own songs which were mostly rap songs. The crowd gave mixed reactions as some songs had good feedback with people dancing and cheering on. While other songs had less of a reaction from the crowd. Overall the set went well as people were introduced to the midliner Dabin, an EDM artist that people were excited about before APAD started. His performance kept the crowd excited and kept the energy up as the sun went down. Even though his songs didn’t have actual lyrics, they still had people on their feet and jumping around as the crowd reacted positively. Once Dabin had finished his set there was a break between his performance and the headliner of the night, Flo Milli. Flo Milli was the artist everyone was excited to see as her popularity was higher than the other performers. Some of her most popular songs like “Conceited”, “Beef FloMix”, “Back Pack”, and more were the ones that had people engaged with her performance. Although it was nice to hear some of her other songs that weren’t as popular or ones that I hadn’t heard of, those songs broadened my knowledge of Flo Milli’s discography. Being a person who never had the opportunity to attend a concert, I was excited to experience something new that I didn’t think was possible. Dabin and Flo Milli specifically have large fanbases with a lot of popularity, so to see them perform at my own school, which makes it very convenient, but also for free, as freshmen did not have to pay to attend APAD, was something that I wasn’t going to miss out on.
