Arms full of bracelets, painted nails, and hair covering the eyes are making a comeback for Oct. 22 and 23 at When We Were Young Fest in Las Vegas. Bands including My Chemical Romance, Dance Gavin Dance, and Mayday Parade are set to performs for two nights in a row.
Earlier this week, Live Nation announced the When We Were Young Festival stacked with every 2000s-2010s pop punk act imaginable. Whether or not we’re witnessing these bands play hits from their spotlight days or newer material, the excitement has broken the internet.
The festival was announced on this past Tuesday with presale tickets going on sale Friday. Once presale tickets were released the servers were overloaded immediately, forcing a second date to appear which also sold out immediately.
Is it too soon in the pandemic to flood festival grounds in the name of emo music? Does every band deserve to play given the past allegations of sexual misconduct and other disappointing acts? How will Live Nation guarantee the safety of festival goers after the 2021 Astroworld tragedy? There’s a ton of potential for the festival given how long some of the bands have been inactive but there’s a surprising lack of concerns about our present moment outside of the beloved music.
