Young the Giant is an American indie-rock band commonly known for their 2010 radio hit “Cough Syrup”. What you may not know is they originated here in Irvine, California! They formed in 2004 under the title The Jakes and changed their name to Young the Giant in January 2010. The members consist of Sameer Gadhia, Jacob Tilley, Eric Cannata, Payam Doostzadeh, and Francois Comtois. Their sound is a blend of alternative and indie-rock and can be compared to the groups “Foster the People” and “Bad Suns”. Their most recent album, “Young the Giant (10th Anniversary Edition)”, was released in 2020 and remastered 16 of their most popular songs. Although it’s been 2 years since their last album, two of the band members, Eric Cannata and Francois Comtois, are making music together under the title Coma Culture. Their sound leans away from rock and closer to indie-pop. The song “Bad Habits” from their self-titled debut is unavoidably catchy with dream-like instrumentals.
