This Valentine’s Day marks the two-year anniversary of Zack Villere’s illustrious "Cardboard City."
Since I've been following him, Zack Villere has always been honest about where he’s at. He wonders when he’ll be able to settle down in a city and make steady money doing what he loves. He goes out of his way to wear clothes that show his deep appreciation for the 2000’s aesthetic. He engages with his fans and nerds out about music just like the rest of us. Wherever he’s at, he makes sure that everybody’s right beside him, experiencing it all just as he is.
Zack Villere goes against any trope your mysterious internet celebrity would usually embrace — "Cardboard City" is a win for everybody. His heart guides his pen and he takes every chance to sing his signature falsetto before meandering back to the lower register for his raps. The album is way more crisp than his debut and zooms past you like the fleeting memory of a city-dwelling night. For 30 minutes, you hear an artist that’s found invaluable parts of himself along a tough journey; let's continuing rooting for him.
